Gulpa (Welcome) to Wanala Weaving
My ngatha (name) is Samantha. I am a Yorta Yorta winyarr (woman).
Wanala means seasons; I chose the name Wanala because the environment has seasons which brings change, and I believe we go through changes and growth in our lives.
I try to connect my woven pieces to my ancestral language of the Yorta Yorta people.
Each item is handwoven using traditional Aboriginal techniques.
I live on the lands of the Wurundjeri people in Naarm (Melbourne) and would like to pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging.
Thank you for supporting me in reconnecting to my culture and language.
